Results: In-Text Ads Experiment
Sun, Apr 6, 2008
A few days ago, I got an idea to run an experiment to see if in-text ads provide similar click-through rate as other forms of advertising. Although personally I am not a big fan of in-text ads, I thought it would be interesting to see if they can provide some revenue for my site.
After running them for a day and a half, I decided to pull out in-text ads from my site, at least for now.
Here are the results:
Day 1:
1385 pageviews
Revenue: $1.09
Day 2: 8,666 pageviews
Revenue: $2.39
Total pageviews: 10,051
Total revenue: $3.48
The $3.48 revenue, based on 10,051 page impressions, yields a poor $0.35, CPM.
Had it not been for my personal negative opinion of In-Text ads, I would most likely run the experiment for a full month. It is possible that the numbers may be better after 200,000 impressions, however, for now I believe a sample based on 10,000 pageviews is sufficient for me to get a preliminary opinion.
